Poetry Corner: The Last Man of The Battle

with James Harris

There stood a man upon a bloody field
The last of two forces that would not yield
He would not fight, yet he refused to run
He waited for the peace that would not come
During the fight he stood still in his place
He would not move a muscle to lift his mace
The battle it seems was not his by choice
There was no refusal, just a lack of voice
If one does not speak and then sees war
Then they should know just what is in store
There is no glory being the one who lived
In a battle where no one knows what you did
Do not be that man, raise your voice up high
Lest you be surrounded by those that did die
